Tips for Girl Scout Troops or Individual Scouts Selling Cookies to be Donated to the US Troops

1.    Any flavor cookie is appreciated by the soldiers.

2.    Keep track of Cookies sold for the Troops in a separate book or on a separate sheet – separate from the Booth Sale boxes and the Door-to-Door Sale boxes

3.    Give people some sort of “receipt” - not for tax purposes - but because you are taking money from them and NOT giving them anything in return. It is good sales practice to give them something to record their purchase.

4.    Make posters for booth displays or flyers for door-to-door sales so that potential customers will know the following information:

® Who – Girl Scout Troop # (fill in your number)

® What – Cookies for the US troops (all kinds are loved by the soldiers and all kids can be shipped)

® When – to be delivered to US troops in March 2008 (Cookies will be included in care packages mailed via USPS – postage is paid by community donations.

® Where – US troops affiliated with Hanscom Air force Base stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locales

® Why – Cookies for the US troops help support the US troops and support the programs offered to girls through the Girl Scouts.

5. Once cookies come in, set aside Cookies for the Troops from your regular order.

Taskline/Timeline for

Hanscom Cookies for the Troops

January Sales Month and Saturday, March 8th 2008 Delivery

December 2007 and January 2008:

1.     Advertise the sale of Cookies for the US Troops at booth sales and door-to-door sales. Create posters or flyers.

February 2008:

2.     Make arrangements in February with the Hopkinton Hanscom Cookie Liaison (HHCL) if your troop/scouts plan on attending the March 8th delivery to the base/media event.

3.     Total # of cookies from your troop should be communicated for accounting and vehicle delivery planning purposes.

March 2008:

4.     If members of your troop or a single scout from your troop wants to attend the March 8th event at Hanscom, their name(s) need(s) to be submitted to the security officials at the base prior to the visit.

5.     When cookies arrive in Hopkinton, quickly separate out those cookies sold for the troops from those to be delivered to customers.

6.     Troops or individual scouts can create small notes, cards and pictures to be attached to each box or submitted alongside the donated boxes.

7.     If no one from your troop can make the Saturday event, and you want your cookies to be delivered with another Hopkinton troop, arrangements can be made with the HHCL.

Care Package Drive Assembly :  TBD

This event takes place towards the end of March and involves scouts lending their hands to packaging up the cookies and other donations for the troops.  That date for 2008 has yet to be determined. If your troop or scout is interested in participating in this, let the HHCL know and information can be shared with you as it becomes available.
